Biden marks anniversary of mass shootings, demands that Republicans back ‘assault weapons’ ban

President Joe Biden marked the one-year anniversary of two bloody mass shootings to renew his attacks on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners, demanding compliance from congressional Republicans on an “assault weapons” ban.

On Sunday, the gun-grabber-in-chief issued a statement recognizing the pair of California massacres, one at a Lunar New Year celebration in Monterrey Park near Los Angeles and the second, only three days later at two Half Moon Bay mushroom farms, neither of which was committed by a white male shooter thereby depriving Biden and the media of making them into racial incidents.

One year ago today, during Lunar New Year celebrations in Monterey Park, 11 people were killed in a heinous act of gun violence. “These shootings shocked the conscience of our nation. In the weeks that followed at my State of the Union address, Jill and I were honored to host Brandon Tsay, who heroically disarmed the Monterey Park shooter and prevented further bloodshed. I also traveled to Monterey Park, where I spent hours meeting with families who lost loved ones, and announced an Executive Order containing new actions to crack down on the epidemic of gun violence tearing our country apart,” Biden said, touting the creation of the new White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention.

“In the wake of the tragic shootings in Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay, California has also taken action, passing more than 20 new gun safety laws and investing in proven solutions like gun violence intervention programs. Other states should follow their lead,” Biden said.

“Importantly, we also need Congress to do its part. It’s long past time we banned assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, ended immunity from liability for gun manufacturers, passed a national red flag law, enacted universal background checks, and required safe storage of guns. We cannot tackle the gun violence epidemic in America while Republicans in Congress sit on their hands,” the octogenarian career politician concluded, once again blaming GOP lawmakers for the murderous actions of a few disturbed individuals.

Biden’s demand for Republican lawmakers to fall in line came two days after he again suggested that the U.S. government could use overwhelming force against gun owners if needed.

Biden is not well: “I love people who say, ‘THE BLOOD OF LIBERTY.’ Or, excuse me, ‘the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots!’ Well, guess what, man. I didn’t see a whole lot of patriots that are out there walking around making sure that we have these weapons…” pic.twitter.com/Hq2pXo8khF — RNC Research (@RNCResearch) January 19, 2024

“And I love people who say, the ‘blood of liberty,’ or excuse me, ‘the tree of liberty is watered with the blood of patriots.’ Well, guess what, man, I didn’t see a whole lot of patriots that are out there walking around making sure that we have these weapons,” Biden said at a Friday White House meeting with mayors.  “And if you really want to worry about the government, you need an F-16.”
