Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) appeared on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures and made a rather surprising remark about the potential impeachment of President Joe Biden.
According to McCarthy, who was touting Republican accomplishments while he was running the show, the GOP under Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has moved “even closer” to filing an impeachment inquiry against the president.
“No one in America would have known that President Biden has lied, that they did receive money from China…that he did get involved in the business dealings,” McCarthy said. “When he went to Cafe Milano, his son got a new Porsche and $3 million was sent to him. We have systematically followed every place the facts have taken us each and every day. And now it’s moved even closer because now we’ve got the subpoenas going in to get the bank statements. We found all of this, the shell companies no one knew about prior. This is important.

Johnson, who received an update last week from the three committee chairs overseeing the probe launched by McCarthy, said at the time a Biden impeachment inquiry has his “full and unwavering support.”
“At this stage, our impeachment inquiry has already shown the corrupt conduct of the President’s family, and that he and White House officials have repeatedly lied about his knowledge and involvement in his family’s business activities,” he said in a statement. “It has also exposed the tens of millions of dollars from foreign adversaries being paid to shell companies controlled by the President’s son, brother, and their business associates.”
“Now, the appropriate step is to place key witnesses under oath and question them under the penalty of perjury, to fill gaps in the record,” he added.
The comment comes after Johnson reportedly suggested in a closed-door meeting earlier this month that there was currently insufficient evidence to move ahead with impeachment proceedings against Biden, urging those involved to be deliberate in their actions.
