Mother dismisses backlash after hip hop-themed child’s birthday with fake guns, cash goes viral: ‘It was all fun’

A video of young black children playing with realistic gun replicas and acting like mini-gangsters at a hip-hop-themed birthday party drew a fierce backlash after it went viral and now the boy’s mom is wondering what the big deal is.

In the short clip of the “NBA YoungBoy themed” party, the kids are seen dancing to the Lousiana-based rapper’s vulgar lyrics while playing with the guns and wads of fake cash in the clip that sparked outrage over the exposure of impressionable youth to thug culture.

The video shows grown men grooving to the beat of “Never Broke Again” by the 24-year-old rapper Kentrell DeSean Gaulden aka NBA YoungBoy who has fathered 11 children with 9 different mothers, a heckuva role model for children who are being marinated in the glorifying of a lifestyle that exalts crime, drugs and the degradation of women.

Devine Brooks, the mother of the child having the birthday reacted to the outrage sparked by the video, playing it off as innocent fun and saying that the kids thought they were filming a rap video.

“He wanted an NBA party and that’s what he got,” Brooks said in a post to Instagram. “My boys are well educated and even going to nationals on his football team! It was all fun and they enjoyed themselves they thought they was shooting a video.”

The video was slammed by social media users, including “Fearless” host Jason Whitlock who wrote, “We will burn in hell for this. All of us. Hip hop is poison. We’re feeding children poison pretending it’s a culture.”

These kind of children will turn around and waste no time in taking the lives of their parents if they don’t agree to their way of life while growing up — Chinaza (Nightwears) (@NwaAdaIgbo1) November 13, 2023

NBA YoungBoy’s songs are often about guns and money, with lyrics like “Made more funds, I had to buy more guns to make it through the day” and “I just walked out my show with a dirty gun.”
