Rep. Jamaal Bowman formally charged over fire alarm stunt, gets a weak slap on the wrist

Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was criminally charged over pulling a fire alarm at the Capitol complex during frenzied efforts to pass a stopgap funding bill in order to prevent a government shutdown.

The hotheaded “Squad” member somehow thought that it would be a good idea to obstruct Congress when he yanked the lever down on the distinctive box clearly marked as a fire alarm and then lied that it was a mistake but as is always the case with Democrats, there would be no real consequences.

CRAZIEST THING IN WASHINGTON TODAY: Democrat Rep. Jamaal Bowman of New York pulled the fire alarm potentially so Democrats would not vote and shut down the government. He later blamed ignorance. pic.twitter.com/B6TLm5HzVN — Simon Ateba (@simonateba) September 30, 2023

On Wednesday, Rep. Bowman was charged for the September 30 incident at the Cannon House Office Building and is scheduled to appear in D.C. Superior Court on Thursday morning to be arraigned for one count of making a false fire alarm.

The misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of up to six months behind bars but there’s virtually no chance whatsoever that the human time bomb will see the inside of a jail cell for his actions that caused a brief shutdown of Congress, unlike the J6 protesters who have been rotting in captivity.

“I’m thankful for the quick resolution from the District of Columbia Attorney General’s office on this issue and grateful that the United States Capitol Police General Counsel’s office agreed I did not obstruct nor intend to obstruct any house vote or proceedings,” he posted to X, the platform previously known as Twitter.

“I am responsible for activating a fire alarm, I will be paying the fine issued, and look forward to these charges being ultimately dropped,” Bowman added. “I think we all know that Republicans will attempt to use this to distract everyone from their mess, but I look forward to putting this behind me and to continue working hard to deliver for New Yorkers.”

Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (R-WI) called B.S. on Bowman in a statement posted to X.

“Rep. Bowman’s excuse does not pass the sniff test. After pulling the fire alarm, Rep. Bowman fled the scene, passed by multiple Capitol Police officers and had every opportunity to alert USCP of his mistake,” Steil said. “I want to thank U.S. Capitol Police for their swift attention to this incident, and encourage the Ethics Committee to further pursue this matter.”

X users reacted to the leniency shown toward Bowman, a protected member of the Washington, D.C. Democrat class.

Two-tiered justice. J6ers who took selfies outside of the Capitol are sitting in jail. — Bytemeharder (@bytemeharder) October 25, 2023

The weak slap on the wrist is yet another example of the dual system of justice that now exists in America with one set of rules for Democrats and their allies, and another for conservatives.
