A proposal to rename one of the main airports that serves Washington, D.C. in honor of former President Donald J. Trump isn’t going over well with Democrats.
This week, House Republicans led by Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) introduced a resolution to change the name of the airport – which is located in Northern Virginia about 26 miles from the nation’s capital – to Donald J. Trump International Airport.
Currently named after former Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, an influential member of the Cold War-era Dwight D. Eisenhower administration, Dulles International Airport opened in 1962 and is currently one of the area’s three major airports and GOP lawmakers are of the opinion that now is a perfect time for a name change.
“Freedom. Prosperity. Strength. That’s what America stood for under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump — the best president of my lifetime,” Reschenthaler wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “And that’s why I’m introducing legislation to rename Dulles as the Donald J. Trump International Airport.”

“In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump,” Reschenthaler said in a statement.“As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil.”
Co-sponsors of the resolution are Reps. Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Andy Ogles (R-TN), Barry Moore (R-AL), and Mike Waltz (R-FL).
Trump would be the second U.S. president to receive such an honor. One of D.C.’s other airports is named Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after the iconic Republican leader.

And of course, Democrats flipped their lids.
“If they name it after Trump, there could be continued round-trip service to Moscow,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a veteran of the failed impeachments and the now-defunct J6 committee.
“Donald Trump is facing 91 felony charges. If Republicans want to name something after him, I’d suggest they find a federal prison,” cracked Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), an unhinged Trump hater whose district partially includes what would be Donald J. Trump International Airport.

This is just another in a long list of instances where extreme House Republicans have shown how unserious & delusional they are,” whined Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA) whose district also includes part of Dulles.
“One of Trump’s first acts as president was a racist Muslim ban that blocked permanent American residents from their own country,” said Don Beyer (D-VA). “I went to Dulles to try to help innocent people caught up in the chaos. I remember grandparents detained for hours as their terrified families waited.”
Republicans were more respectful.
“I totally support the renaming of Dulles airport to the greatest President in my lifetime, DJT,” Rep. Nehls told Axios.
“I can see no more fitting recognition than naming both airports in our nation’s capital after America’s two best presidents: DCA after President Reagan and Dulles after President Trump,” said Rep. Gosar.
